I have never been seen as someone that excelled at anything in particular. This was partially because I don’t spent enough time in one area or expertise to become a “master” or stay long enough that I become associated with it. Most people grow up knowing want they want to become; be it a doctor, lawyer, fireman, businesswoman or housewife. For me on the otherhand everything in the world was fascinating. I just wanted to go through the world asking: “But why?” And so I did…
Asking “But why?” wasn’t as easy as I first thought it would be. It sometimes a lot of the time got me into trouble. People are not used to be questioned on their beliefs and behaviours. People become defensive and then aggressive, because they are “attached” to those beliefs; those collection of beliefs are them and if you questioned it, you were questioning them.
For me beliefs were a lot more flexible, they were afterall just perceptions of the world and not necessarily the “truth”. It is astounding how many beliefs we have that are build on our insecurities; fear of the unknown and the need to be in control. We would rather stay with the status quo than find a better solution, for the fear of losing the control we think we have.
Now if I can convince people that the answer to all their problems lies in the question they ask, this world can be transformed like never before. We need a philosophical shift to move beyond our current world prediciment. New solutions need to be found for old problems so that we can stop repeating them. We need to take the next evolutionary step and that can only be done, if we change our perception of everything in this universe.
